How do I use Viki on Google Chromecast?

Below you will find directions for using Viki on Chromecast on the web, iOS, and Android devices. To set up your Chromecast for the first time, please follow these instructions

Note: Google Chromecast casting is only available for Viki Pass subscribers.
Web

Using Google Chromecast on Web

  1. Make sure your Chromecast is connected to the same wireless network (including the same 2.4GHz or 5GHz network) as your computer.
  2. Go to viki.com and log in to your Viki account, do make sure it is the correct account with a Viki Pass subscription linked.
  3. Go to the video you'd like to cast.
  4. Click on the cast icon Inactive cast extension which is located under the video player, next to the volume icon.

  5. A pop-up should appear with TV device options to cast to.

  6. Click on the desired device to cast to (if more than one is found). The casting to your TV device will begin, and your web player should look something like this:

  7. You can control the video from the bottom of the screen. For example, to stop casting, click on the Cast icon, and select 'Stop'.

I'm not able to see the Chromecast icon despite being a subscriber

Ensure you are logged in to the correct Viki account linked to a Viki Pass subscription.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot your Chromecast on the web:

  1. First, log out from your account.
  2. Next, clean the cache and cookies on your browser.
  3. Finally, close the browser and restart it again.
  4. If you're using the Google Home app to control your Chromecast, please Reboot your Google Home.
  5. Reboot your Chromecast device.
  6. Turn off your internet router, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
  7. Make sure Chromecast is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer. Also, do note that they are either on the same 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network.
  8. Log back into your Viki account and try casting again.
Note: If you're still facing issues with not seeing the Chromecast Icon, do know that Chromecast services themselves control the icon, and we cannot make it appear on our end. You may still see this icon on other services/apps, but do know that other apps may use casting protocols that we don't support.
iOS

Using Google Chromecast with the iOS Viki app

  1. Make sure the iOS mobile or tablet you are using to cast is on the same 2.4GHZ or 5GHz Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in.
  2. Please download the Google Home app on your iOS device if you're using the Google Home app to control your Chromecast.
  3. Open the Viki app and log in to your Viki account, do make sure it is the correct account with a Viki Pass subscription linked.
  4. Tap the Cast icon Inactive cast extension on the homepage or the video player.
  5. Select the Chromecast device you'd like to cast to (if more than one).
  6. When connected, the Cast icon will turn blue, letting you know you're connected.
  7. You can now cast videos directly to your TV.
  8. To stop casting, tap the Cast Inactive cast extension icon and and then Disconnect.

I'm not able to see the Chromecast icon despite being a subscriber

  2. Next, reinstall the Viki app and reboot your iOS device.
  3. If you're using the Google Home app to control your Chromecast, please Reboot your Google Home.
  4. Reboot your Chromecast device.
  5. Turn off your internet router, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
  6. Make sure Chromecast is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your device. Also, do note that they are either on the same 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network.
  7. Log back into your Viki account and try casting again.
