How Do I Change My Subtitle Settings?

When you're signed in to your Viki account, your preferred subtitle language is saved to your account and automatically used across supported platforms. 

You can set your preferred subtitle language in either of these ways:

• Select a subtitle language from the subtitle menu while watching a video.
• Update your Subtitle Language preference under your Viki Account Settings.

Your most recent subtitle selection becomes your default subtitle language.

If you select Off, subtitles will remain turned off by default until you choose another subtitle language. 

When you start watching a video, Viki determines your subtitle language in the following order:

1. Your saved subtitle language preference. 
2. Your most recently selected subtitle language.

3. If no preference exists:

   • Viki.com defaults to English
   • Mobile and TV apps use your device language

Automatically selected languages are not saved as your preferred subtitle language unless you manually choose them.

1. Sign in to your Viki account.
2. Go to Account Settings.
3. Locate Subtitle Language.
4. Choose your preferred subtitle language or select Off to disable subtitles by default.

If you have not set a preferred subtitle language, please select a language that will appear in the menu.

Your new selection will be saved to your account and applied to future playback until you change it again.

• Transparent Background
• Large Text
• Classic or Outline Text.
  • To view your new style in full screen, tap the full-screen icon .

• To customize a style, select Create New Style. You can change the font, size, and color of the text along with the color and opacity of the background.
  • Note: When Chromecasting from the iOS app, to set a background for your subtitles, instead of setting it in Opacity, please select Text Highlight instead.

• When you're happy with the new style, tap Save at the top of the screen. This style will be the default style for subtitles and captions.

  Android (Mobile Web Browser)

3. This will bring you to your device's subtitle settings. Ensure that the setting is turned On at the top.

You can do this by visiting the Roku device settings and within the app.

On the Roku device Main Menu:

1. Go to Settings. 
2. To open the captions menu, select Accessibility. If Accessibility is not listed, select Captions. 
3. Select Captions Mode.
4. Choose between <Off>, <On> and <On Replay>.

Within the Viki app: 

1. Go to the video. 
2. Once it starts, press * (asterisk). 
3. The video will pause and a pop-up menu will appear.
4. Choose between <Off>, <On> and <On Replay>.
5. Set the language preferred from the Closed Captioning option.

Note: On Replay will only show subtitles when you press the replay button on your remote. Use this option if you feel comfortable with the video audio language. You can use the replay button and the last 10 seconds will replay with subtitles.

After you turn subtitles on or off, the setting will remain. You will not have to turn them on or off again.

  How To Turn Subtitles On / Off and Change Subtitles Language

Follow the steps below to set the subtitles language and to turn off the subtitles.

From the video page:

1. With your remote, pause the video and slide up the touch feature to select the subtitles box on the right side of the screen. The subtitle pop-up box should appear above your play bar.
2. Slide up or down the touch feature on your remote and select the language of your choice. English should be chosen as a default if the device is set in English. You can slide up or down to choose your preferred subtitle language or turn off the subtitles.

From the Viki homepage:

1. You can also set/change the subtitles language by going to ‘Settings’ on the Viki homepage. Slide down the touch feature and select ‘Subtitle Language’ tab to change the subtitle language to your preferred language.
