What are Content Restrictions?

Content Restrictions allows you to restrict access to certain shows or movies based on the content ratings of your location. When enabled, a PIN will be required to watch any titles with that rating and above.

You can choose which category of shows you want to restrict. By selecting a rating will restrict access to content with the selected rating and all higher-rated content.

Content Ratings are localized and may vary by region.

For Users who have an existing PIN created on CTV devices, the existing PIN will be erased. You will need to create a new PIN to set up Content Restrictions.

To set up, update or disable Content Restrictions on your CTV device, you will need to go to Viki.com on a computer web browser or mobile browser. You will not be able to set up Content Restrictions on your CTV device.

Follow steps shown under the section below to perform your preferred action.

How Do I Set Up Content Restrictions?

Before setting up your Content Restrictions, keep in mind….

If you do not enable Content Restrictions and set up a PIN, you will be opted-out of Content Restrictions by default, and you will be able to access all rated content.

You can’t set up Content Restrictions via the mobile app and on CTV devices. You will need to do this via Viki.com on a web browser or mobile browser.
If any of the following scenarios apply to you, we highly suggest you update your email address. Refer to How Do I Change My Email Address? for more information.
- My Viki account is not linked to a valid email address
- I no longer have access to the email address linked to my Viki account
- My login method (Google Sign In, Apple ID, Rakuten ID, Facebook Sign In) is not linked to a valid email address

From a Web Browser / Mobile Browser

To enable or manage Content Restrictions, follow the steps below:

Go to Viki.com on a computer web browser, or a mobile browser on your mobile device.
Go to Account Settings.
Under Settings, next to No content restrictions set, click on Change.
Before you enable Content Restrictions, you will be prompted to enter an OTP Code.
Enter the OTP Code that is sent to the email address linked to your Viki account.
Toggle the button from left to right to set Content Restrictions.
Under Restricted content ratings, select the content rating you wish to restrict.
The selected restriction will apply across devices.
Create a 4-digit PIN and click Save settings to save your settings.
Once saved, all content with the selected rating and above will require the user to enter their PIN before it can be played.
Under Account Settings > Settings > Content Restrictions, you will also be able to check what Content Restrictions you have set your account to.

How Can I Update my Content Restrictions?

From a Web Browser or Mobile Browser

Go to Viki.com on a web browser or mobile browser.
Go to Account Settings.
Under Settings > Content Restrictions, click on Change.
You will be prompted to Enter an OTP Code that is sent to your email address. Click Confirm.
Select your Restricted Content Ratings.
Enter your 4-digit PIN and click Save settings to save your settings.

How Can I Disable Content Restrictions?

From a Web Browser or Mobile Browser

To disable Content Restrictions on your account, follow the steps below.

Go to Viki.com on a web browser or mobile browser, and login to your account.
Go to Account Settings.
Under Content restrictions, click on Change.
You will be prompted to Enter OTP Code that is sent to your email address. Click Confirm.
A pop up will appear to update your Content Restrictions settings.
Next to Restrict content access based on content rating, toggle the button from right to left to disable the Content Restrictions on your Viki account.
Close the Content Restrictions pop up box by clicking on the X located on the top right-hand corner.

Keep in mind

If you disable your content restrictions settings and choose to enable them again later, your previous settings will be restored.
Please be advised that once you disable your Content Restrictions, you will no longer need to key in a PIN whenever you or anyone in your household watches content rated shows.

How Do I Reset My PIN?

If you forgot your PIN or need to reset it, follow the steps below:

Go to Viki.com on a web browser or mobile browser
Go to Account Settings
Under Settings > Content Restrictions, click on Change.
You will be prompted to Enter OTP Code that is sent to your email address. Click Confirm.
A pop up will appear to update your Content Restrictions settings.
Under Set or update PIN, click on the first box and you will be allowed to enter a new PIN.
Click on Save settings to save your new PIN.

Are Content Restrictions Available on All Devices?

Yes, Content Restrictions are available across all supported devices: Web, Mobile, and Connected TV Apps.

Some important notes for CTV users:

You will need to set or update Content Restrictions via Viki.com on a web browser or mobile browser.
Content Restrictions feature will be updated on May 6, 2025. Any existing PIN created before this date will be reset. If you wish to restrict content across all your devices, you will need to reset it. To learn how to do this, follow the steps under How Do I Set Up Content Restrictions? above.
Make sure your Viki app is updated to the latest version to enable the latest Content Restrictions feature.

Are Content Restrictions Enabled by Default?

Content Restrictions are optional and must be manually enabled through your Account Settings.
