[Solved] Subtitles out of sync with Chromecast
Hi, we’ve been experiencing issues with subtitles appearing out of sync with various shows when casted to a TV via Chromecast (Running Man, How Do You Play, Pasta, etc). Is this an issue on Viki’s end?
I'm not sure why we haven't gotten any updates for this issue that's been going on for over a month...at least some sort of indication that this was being worked on would be nice. It's not like this is a free service either, so some form of reimbursement for those of us who are unable to even use the service would be nice. I literally haven't been able to watch anything on this for the last month+, so that's money down the drain.
I’m going to cancel my service soon if they don’t fix it. I had to play it on my laptop, and hook an hdmi cable up from my computer to my tv so that my sister and I could watch on a bigger screen together. This has been going on for over a month. I’ll be cancelling soon if they don’t fix it. I use Chromecast and subscribe to services to make life easy. Viki’s not worth the extra effort from my laptop when Netflix, Prime and Hulu and other streaming services connect to Chromecast just fine.

We suggest continuing to watch directly on your other devices in the meantime. There are also Connected TV alternatives with the Viki app, such as Apple/Android/Fire TV or Roku, that you may consider using.

I’m paying for Viki plus, but most of the shows are unwatchable because of the timing issues. This is very frustrating. Please get it fixed soon or I will have to cancel it.
Same here. Been waiting for more than a month now for this issue to be fixed in chromecast. Viki, please fix this right away so we can enjoy watching the shows on tv. I tried to cast using iphone, ipad and lenovo laptop. They are all the same....subtitles not syncing with the video. Frustrating.
While viki.com is working on the problem, is it possible for viki.com to deactivate the chromecast function entirely so subscribers can at least cast by mirroring? I was able to mirror cast briefly for one episode and it worked great. Then viki.com's direct chromecast function kicked back in and I couldn't mirror anymore. The chromecast subtitle sync issue is still happening so I wasn't able to watch anything else on viki.com comfortably. Unfortunately, I have no idea why viki's chromecast function didn't work that one time or I'd do it again on purpose.
Regarding the above comment, this is not an issue every show (it seems to mostly affect newer shows). So I would rather not have Chromecast completely disabled as I hate mirroring to my TV from a phone/computer. Personally, I would rather they focus their energy on fixing the synching issue.
I noticed it's not necessarily newer shows, but ones that are only for viki plus access. I tried with various dramas of old and new that were listed as for Plus only including Taxi Driver, Sell Your Haunted House, Ghost , Cunning Single Lady, Weightlifting Fairy, Modern Farmer, all listed as only for Plus members and gave the syncing issue whereas other newer ones like monthly magazine house, my roommate is a gumiho, or others that were available for standard and below didn't have the syncing issue. This might be a pattern or not, but this was what I've seen at least with the dramas I saw, that only the ones for Plus so far have been affected.

Also experiencing issue
Subtitles on new episodes of Love Alice or Not are missing but are there and in sync on earlier episodes. Is there a delay in adding them? I have had a few cases of out of sync subtitles but most went away when I restarted the program.
I am having the same subtitle sync issues as well. If it's not fixed soon, I'm considering to cancel my subscription.
This issue is still happening and there is no samsung app. I am dying here because the subtitles are so delayed on Taxi driver its almost impossible to watch.
I can’t believe this is still an issue! People have been complaining about this for MONTHS and they tell us they’re “working on it” but nothing changes. I’m so frustrated.
The issue seems to be fixed for me under update 14.1. Sometimes it gets unsynced during the intro but if I just stop casting and then start casting again if it's just the problem.
Hi Viki it will be almost 3 months. Taxi Driver already concluded, Kwangsoo already left Runningman and you still haven’t resolved this issue. 43 comments from different users and still no proper update. You had time to do cosmetic change to your platform from the last update but apparently no time to troubleshoot this issue. I guess customers are not your top priority. Or I guess our number is small enough that you can just disregard our concerns.

Not enjoyable anymore if you cannot watch it on TV via chromecast. Subs not synching with Taxi Driver. They will suggest to watch it on your device. Wow. Not convenient especially if yours laying in bed, how many times my phone drop on my face when I get sleepy!
Still having issues with out of sync subtitles with chrome cast. Can’t watch penthouse on my TV. Please fix this!! I chose to pay for Viki especially because of the casting option on the TV. Is there any update????
Please fix this issue viki! It seems like chrome cast is a platform MANY paying customers are using and it’s a shame it stopped working. Even my airplay doesn’t work because the subtitles are off to the side even when I change my caption settings. It’s frustrating to watch it on my tiny phone screen when I’m paying to be able to watch it on the big tv. It’s been almost 3 months and I hope viki can fix this as soon as possible

Watching I am not a robot, and it's impossible to watch. You cannot tell who is saying anything.
Who is writing the software? Problems with casting last for months before they are fixed. You don't reimburse users for lost time on their subscriptions. Greedy company who cares nothing about users. Fix this!!!

So, it was fixed, but now it's off again for some kdramas under version 15.
A few months later, and this is still an issue...Yet I'm still paying for my monthly subscription. This is unacceptable, is anyone working on getting this resolved?
Just checked with the latest update v 15 and it's still not working, subtitles still off for the Plus exclusive shows. Sigh....
Viki. We demand an update on the status, not just, "we're aware of the issue"... we are your premium subscribers. Your attitude on this issue, which makes Premium content unwatchable, is unacceptable.
I started watching a drama that fortunately isn't experiencing the out of sync subtitle issue with chromecast so that's the time frame I'm giving viki before canceling (might as well direct the money to another streaming service). All of the variety shows I usually watch unfortunately have this sync issue with chromecast and watching those shows is the main reason I subscribed to begin with. Viki doesn't even allow you an option to mirrorcast. I know people have responded that they'd rather the issue was fixed than turned off and they don't like to mirror cast. Yeah, we all want it fixed. Chromecast is awesome when it's working, but we've already gone for months without the issue being fixed or even being able to mirrorcast, meaning we have zero options to watch viki on a big screen at all.
I don't think any of us are feeling any sort of urgency around this issue, even though this topic is responded to at least a couple times a week, no one from Viki has responded since the initial "looking into it" response. The one thing that makes Viki a more attractive app than other apps is the ability to cast to Chromecast from my phone. Considering the fact that this is a major selling point for the app I'm not understanding why it's taking so long to get this fixed. Maybe a potential solution, since this only seems to be affecting things in the plus category, is to take everything that is currently plus and make it standard so we can watch it.

I've had enough of this. If enough people cancel their plus subscriptions, perhaps they'll start caring about putting together a product that actually works.
The not synching in chromeccast always starts in the middle of the drama like from ep 5 or 6., not in early episodes. It will be fine until you're hooked. So you will never know which ones will be out of sync. I noticed that if you do a marathon all 10 eps or more watching contionously and NOT fwding or rewinding it is fine. So I suggested to viki if they can find a way to give us an option to reset, as if we never watch it, no episode memory watch maybe that will work with the chromecast synching issue. And I agree, this issue been far too long without resolution.
Everything I watch, the problem has been from the very first episode.
But it doesnt matter now, I've cancelled Plus, and I'm not re-subscribing, unless this gets fixed.
They deleted the Samsung app, and the other TV Apps, now Chromecast doesn't even work.
All my problems have been since ep 1 as well
