Would the dual subtitles you're referring to be Learn Mode subtitles?
If so, you can turn the Learn Mode subtitles off by going to the video player settings and turning off Learn Mode. You can also refer to this FAQ for more information about how to do so.
After which, if subtitles are still too big, you can also make them smaller by going to Subtitle Appearance. You can refer here to learn to make the changes:
