Private Censoring

I watch Asian dramas mainly because of the basic quality and effort made to keep them much cleaner than US media. Thank you for offering these programs. I don't know how many others agree with my next objection ( I hope many do). Using Christian deity swear words is objectionable to me. I see it occurring more and more as time goes on. Many very good programs are spoiled for me because of it and I refuse to watch them. If this continues, I will not be able to keep my VIKI subscription. Unfortunately, the actors of non-USA media have actually started saying the "swear" words in the films and the translators are just writing what they are saying, but this seems only to be fair game for Christianity. As a Christian, I do not want to hear my honest religious views treated so disrespectfully. I hope you can somehow address this concern. Perhaps, adding a special filter controlled by the viewer/customer would help? Thank you.

Thank you so much for your suggestion Woodhawk!  I'm including a link to your suggested Google Chrome extension in case anyone else in the community wants to use it: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stream-clean/fdhfbcegmpgcbcfpifbihkhonohaiiod

  • Fantastic news! I found a free Google Chrome Extension that blanks out the offending words. And, not only the offending words but the audio also! So, if you are considering not watching a series because it contains offending language, just install the free Chrome Extension. It works great! I love it! Now I can watch the ending to all those drama series I stopped watching due to the language I didn't want to see and hear. The name is Stream Clean. There may be better ones around, but this one was good enough for me.

  • Do you have an example (title; episode; timestamp)? 'Cause I think sometimes it's just the translator that comes up with this word, 'cause translating swear words word by word often makes no sense so they pick an equivalent that they think fits.

  • There are many examples but now that I know there are filters available, all is good. I have used one and no longer have a problem. I love my Korean and Chinese dramas!

  • I was having this same issue and felt conflicted watching viki with the cussing in subtitles. Does the google chrome extension work on viki app? Or on your phone? Does this only work on using the chrome internet? I'm not really understanding how to use it

  • The filter is easy to install as it is a Chrome Extension. It is called "Stream Clean", not to be confused with another one called "Clean Stream". Two things happen when a filtered word is used in the subtitles. First, the offending word is changed to *******. Next, as long as the subtitled word is on the screen, the sound is muted. Originally, I wanted to use it with Dramafever but it didn't work with it. I contacted the developer via their contact information and he immediately made it work with Dramafever. Yes, it works with Viki.

  • I'm not sure if it works with a phone. I have not used it that way.

  • Is there a way to remove some suggested titles/ shows from Viki? There are some that I do not wish my children to be exposed.  Thank you.
