[Solved] Roku Layout changes
I have Viki on Roku in the US and WHAT did they do to the homescreen layout? My "continue watching" only plays the rest of the episode I was on and stops. No next episode option. The categories (which were at the top) are GONE. I watch Viki daily and it was not like this yesterday...anyone else?

I was just trying to find a show on the roku app on viki and notice the change in layout. both me and my family can not figure out why the search by country and gener were removed and now the only way to look for dramas is by looking thru the picks someone on your app curated. this approach will never let me find all the dramas that you have only the one's pre picked. unless i already know the name of the drama i am trying to find. it feels like someone is trying to control what we watch by placing the list of dramas that you think are good rather than giving me your full catalog to pick for myself. i have to say i don't appreciate that at all and wish that this will be fixed in the near future. having access to your full catalog was the one thing that really differentiates you from the other streaming sites out there that really try to guide your viewing experience rather then let you pick for yourself.
It's been a few weeks now that Viki was told by their subscribers the the Roku layout is bad, substandard, etc, Their answer is repeatedly "we are aware of the problem". Sorry Viki, I'm not renewing my subscription. Eventually you will loose enough customers with your lack of cutomer support.
From reading the thread, I notice that other viewers aren't able to see trailers on the new Roku Viki app, but I'm also unable to watch movies. If I select a movie to watch, the app closes immediately. I've rebooted the Roku and my TV but without success. Anyone else have this issue?
Yes, I have the same issue with the Roku app crashing immediately when I select a movie to watch.
I am still having the same issues as most users on this thread. I haven't seen any updates since February 21st. Has there been any results and/or movement on fixing the bugs mentioned? It's very discouraging when trying to find a show/movie to watch if you don't know exactly what you're looking for, ESPECIALLY since this was a feature that could be used in thr past.
Why don't you just admit that you are not going to continue to support the use of Roku so that we can all make the appropriate decision and move on with our lives?
If that's the case, I'd like to know too. It takes me time to figure things out. My life is over busy as it is. I'd like the time to make an informed decision. Not constant stress and then suddenly finding out it's being dropped.
I also don't understand because on large multiplayer games I play,
1. They announce there's a bug, are very specific about what it is, apologize and
2. Announce they will be going offline briefly (a few hours) over the next day or 2.They announce in advance the times so we know. Most people are okay with this as stuff happens.
3. Within a day or 2 it's sorted. They specify what they did. Thank you for your patience. (Of a few hours withing a few days).
Can't you please be more honest with us? Also, other platforms I'm on announce in advance when updates will be done and what they will include. Why does VIKI need to be so covert about everything? I don't find it a healthy work or business ethic.
If you are truly working on it, (and I know you did sort some of the issues), why on earth don't you give updates with specific details of the problem and what you are doing?
Hey everyone,
Here are some updates for the Roku bugs:
We're also sorry that there are still issues that are prioritized to be worked on at a later date. However, please be rest assured that we will continue to support the Roku Viki channel and will let you know once any fixes or updates for these are available.
As always, thank you for your understanding and patience!
Best,
Michelle
I agree with everyone here in this forum. I hate the new Home page layout! I want the categories by countries and filters by genre BACK! I can’t find the Korean shows I want on my Roku device on my smart TV. I can’t view movies or trailers without Viki app crashing too!
I agree please bring back the format that lets us know the genre country ...
This new interface is a hot mess. Effectively there is no access to all the shows on Viki because you don’t have an all shows selection let alone filters by genre and country. I am not getting what I am paying for. Even if you don’t have filter users should be able to see a full list of shows. Even a kid knows you need menus and filters. Please fix this soon or You will be loosing customers.
Maybe it is time to cancel my Viki subscription. I have the Plus subscription and I still can’t view any movies…only series shows. This Viki App crashing has been going on for too long. Also, I’m running out of content to watch since the new layout update makes it impossible to search for previous shows. So far, the “new releases” and “coming soon” stuff don’t interest me. I’m watching less and less Viki and finding Kdramas from other streaming services. I’m just wasting money on this service.
Here's something you should know about canceling your Viki subscription: you are canceling your next renewal. Your current subscription continues until then. At least it's SUPPOSED to. When I canceled mine, the Roku app wouldn't play every third episode because it claimed I was not subscribed. Another Roku app FAIL! I returned to the website, uncanceled my subscription, and at least that issue went away. So if you're going to cancel your subscription, you might want to wait until a few days before it renews.
The manager that approved this latest Roku Format really messed up big time LOL.
Ok, that’s it! I’m definitely canceling my subscription when my renewal comes up end of May! “The Scent of a woman” is missing episode 3! The “Police University “ episode 6 is NOT available. Gives me “Error:VSF_<6401>” message telling me take a break-have a chocolate!!!! I rebooted and still keeps giving me that stupid message. On phone and on my TV. Another show did that too. Viki app is so messed up. It has way too many bugs! This isn’t simply roku issue since it’s also doing it on my iPhone.

We have a bigger issue you now with the update today now the application will not even load the gui before crashing to home screen,
Seriously, this is getting REALLY frustrating. Now my Viki app won't even open, on my roku tv OR my firestick. The only reason I paid for Viki to begin with was so I could watch shows without having to stream from sites on my computer. If I can't even watch on my tv anymore it's completely pointless for me to be paying for a subscription. If I have to go back to watching on a computer I might as well go back to streaming from other sites and not having to pay for this anymore.
Same thing happened to me just now. I've had a feeling for a while that Viki was going down the toilet and it's finally happened. It's frustrating how the company mislead their customers for months. It is pointless to continue as a customer.
Makes me wonder....the company has continued to collect monthly fees from it's customers since the beginning of the year for a broken product - where has that money been going? Certainly not toward fixing anything or communicating with its customers.
Us griping about this doesn't seem to do any good. Yeah, me too. I won't renew. They ripped me off. Lesson learned. I wish there was a way to let people know outside this forum.
App is not working on Roku at all.
Hi all,
We're having some issues with the Roku Viki Channel crashing today, and our team is working on it.
Do follow this post for more updates on that. In the meantime, we also suggest watching on Viki.com or on our other supported apps.
Thank you,
Michelle
No. I do no want to watch on Viki.com or use the cloud "air - cast" it to my tv. Please fix the app to work on Roku and Fires stick (we use both to watch Viki). Tonight I am having to use netflix (which did not want to subscribe to) because the Viki app failed. While fixing the crash will you please put back the search by country feature. I dislike netflix but this is horrible.
Well this sucks that even months later the same issues persist. I assume by now this is the "new normal" and not going to be fixed. I paid for this service mainly for convenience. A lot of the shows on here can be watched, for free, somewhere else maybe 1-2 days later or even sometimes the day it appears in the app but not translated yet you can find it on YouTube already translated.
The straw that broke the camels backs o to speak is the inability on the roku app to search by country or genre. This has forced me to go to the android app on my phone, search whatever out and save it to watch list. A waste of my time. Guess I'll be unsubscribing.
All the issues in thei thread are actually reasonably simple fixes for their programmers so they must not going to be fixing it.
I log onto Rakuten Viki on the computer and can use the filters there. I do that if I want to search for a genre and then I take that information and apply it when I watch Viki via Roku on my TV. It's an extra step that shouldn't, and didn't use to be, necessary. I cannot understand why if the filters are available on computer they can't be on TV. Oh well.....if they haven't fixed it by now they aren't going to bother. Real shame, the filters were a big feature of why I signed up for this service.
I believe they have no intention of including the basic search options everyone else has.
They keep adding bells & whistles & unnecessary endless lists of other people. I'd like to select my own content. They don't seem to understand this concept.
It’s been plenty of time to fix this horrible setup. I liked Viki especially because I could search for the particular genre that I am interested in but this awful update has removed it!!! How crazy?! Your customers are obviously not happy and yet it’s been months and there has not been a change. I pay for a monthly subscription, but I am getting ready to cancel it since you don’t seem to care that your customers are so unhappy with your unwise decision to change the layout and search capabilities. I literally watch this app on my Roku TV almost every single day. I was happy to pay for it but now I’m so disappointed! Your official support comments seemed to indicate that your people were on top of getting this resolved, so I was willing to be patient, but even the worst tech guru in history could’ve fixed this by now. So sad. I really loved this app before.
I used to watch Viki all the time, but since the update in February, I've hardly watched anything. It's hard to find shows that I'm interested in. Instead Viki prioritizes a bunch of shows that I don't care for. Without the ability to sort by genre and country, it takes too long to find what I'm looking for. I find myself just watching shows on Netflix instead. I may just cancel my subscription because it's just not worth it.
Agreed - sadly it looks as if Viki is not going to add back the search by country feature. It is sad really because that is a feature that is a must for Viki to keep my subscription. I am in the US watching on Roku and want Korean dramas. If this is not going to be fixed, I am sorry to say we will be leaving Viki (which we loved before they removed the search by country feature) We have started using other options to find Korean Drama. Kocowa has it's own app subscription service.
