[Solved] Subtitles out of sync with Chromecast
Hi, we’ve been experiencing issues with subtitles appearing out of sync with various shows when casted to a TV via Chromecast (Running Man, How Do You Play, Pasta, etc). Is this an issue on Viki’s end?

I opened a ticket on this but have not heard back. Has anyone else heard ANYTHING from Viki on this issue?
I haven't either. I wrote up a ticket two months ago on the issue and no one responded back to that one ever.
The whole reason I subscribed to Viki was because I could use chromecast to watch shows on my TV since I cannot put the Viki app on my TV and do not really like watching from my laptop. With the subtitles being off no matter what device I cast from is high infuriating, and I wish you would fix this problem as soon as possible. Viki has it's flaws yes, but I really do like this app and I don't want to have to switch to something else, so please please please, let me be able to watch my shows in peace again.
I recently submitted a request about this same problem. As you can see, so many people feel the same way about this and I hope that you can solve it so that you don't risk losing any more followers. We all love Viki and would hate having to find another streaming service or way to watch entertainment on our TVs. Please Viki!!!!!!
The out of sync early subtitles have been driving me crazy. Right now I have no other choice but Chromecast. What is the status of fixing
I too am a paid subscriber... It worked fine for the longest time.
I am a paid subscriber and I am having the same issue this needs to be corrected. I pay to watch on my television not my phone or iPad all the time. Can you at least provide an update on the status of how the issue is being worked? It has been 3 months since this issue was report this needs to be resolved now. VIKI what is taking so long.
I also have sync issues with CC on chromecast. I plays fine on PC or Android, but as soon cast to chromecast the sync issues start.
I am also a paid customer. Please fix this for Chromecast. I enjoy watching on tv not small devices. This issue had been going on for far too long. I am on the verge of cancelling my subscription. We are not getting the full experience. I'm not even sure why this issue occurred. Please give us an update why this problem has been occurring and how much longer we have to wait.
Still no fix?
It would be nice if the techs or people working on this issue can keep customers regularly updated on how it's going. When can we expect this to be resolved? Will it ever be?
I downgraded from plus to standard because of this chromecast subtitle sync issue. I realize now that there's not much that I want to watch on standard so I'm going to terminate my account entirely since I'm basically paying a monthly fee for nothing. I'll be happy to revive my account and even upgrade to VikiPlus if there's ever word that the subtitle sync issue with chromecast has been resolved. Until then, Goodbye.
Wow... Still NO fix...
Unbelievable.
May 9 to Sept 4...
4 Months..
Hmm, can it really be that hard to fix this issue? Or at least create an app to use on my Samsung smart TV, or let me use the built-in web browser again. You guys aren't making it easy.
I am having the same issue since May casting from a Note 20 Ultra to a Vizio smart TV. I've tried Chromecast, direct to smart TV casting, and Amazon Firestick casting and there are always shows out of sync. Not to mention when stopping the casting to my TV on the shows that aren't out of sync, the app always, ALWAYS loses the place where you stopped and you have to go to the episode you were on and search for where you stopped, then cast the show. I love the dramas on VIKI, but the app consistently being non-functional when casting is ridiculousness. I paid for VIKI plus and I paid for an ultra 4k TV... And it's not unreasonable to expect that I can use both as designed, and that both will function correctly. I'm with the person that misses DramaFever. I'm right there with you girl.
All Viki needs to do is add a setting to its own app that allows the user to control the timing of the subtitles either ahead or behind by a few seconds or a fraction thereof. VLC has this option so you can sync subtitles downloaded separately from the video content. Since all subtitles are time stamped, this shouldn't be difficult for Viki to implement.
I think we should keep submitting tickets until they actually fix this issue lmao. We haven’t heard any reply from Viki on this matter at all!!!
Edit: The issue might still be occurring when casting from the Viki Android app. Our team is looking into this again. Please cast from your other non-Android devices in the meantime.
Hi everyone,
Good news! The subtitle out of sync issue on Chromecast is now fixed.
If you're still seeing the same issue, please try the following first:

Thank you, Michelle! I look forward to testing this out, over the weekend.
Excited that this is now fixed!
Aaaand I'm back because I heard it was fixed. Tried it out and it looks like it was fixed. Thank you for finally fixing it.
Hi, I received an email saying this was resolved but I'm still experiencing the same issue. I followed all directions (reinstalled viki app, cleared chrome browser's cache and cookies, and rebooted my chromecast device) several times. Still the same issue, so here are the information of my device and software you requested:
1. Viki version 6.16.2
2. Samsung S9, Android version 10
3. I only experience this issue when casting via chromecast. When I watch directly on the app on my phone there are no issues with subtitles timing.
4. All viki plus shows gives me this issue. Just to name a few examples: Running Man ep. 560-recent, Running Man Classics, Penthouse 3 etc.
I tried casting from my computer and it looks like it is fixed there now, thanks.
However I'm still seeing the delay if I try casting from my android app even after reinstalling and rebooting.
1. Version 6.16.2
2. Samsung galaxy s10, android 11
3. Watching from app is also fine
4. All plus shows still show issue from the Android.
Thank you
Hi there, I followed the instruction and is still having issues with subtitles (subtitles are showing up earlier than it shud have).
1. Viki version 6.16.2
2. Casting from Samsung Note 20 Plus, android version 11.
3. No issues with subtitles when watching directly from phone or PC. Also no issues watching any standard videos.
4. Seems like issues happens only in Plus contents (tried watching The Penthouse 3 (ep 13) & Running Man (ep 500), both subtitles on these are showing up earlier than its supposed to). But no issues when I watch Standard contents (i.e. My roommate is a gumiho, The Witch's Diner).
Looking forward to a solution ASAP. I'm paying monthly subscription so I can cast to my Chromecast. I've been waiting for this fix for months and am getting tired of watching from my laptop/phone. :(
Hi jennolae, jkong001_7, calla89 and everyone else,
Seems like the issue still occurs when casting from the Android Viki app. We have informed our team to look into this again and will let you know once it is fixed for this.
We appreciate your patience once again and do cast from your other non-Android devices in the meantime!
Thank you,
Michelle
Nope. IT'S Not resolved. You guys know from the get go that androids have problems too. And you posted it as SOLVED!
" Do cast with your non android device", huh??? So what are we? Paid subscribers with android device, another 5 months of waiting???
We are now up to version 6.17.0, and it is still not fixed for Android users. Do you guys just not want Android users to use your app anymore? Is that what it is? Do I need to go find another app to watch Korean dramas on? Not everyone owns an iPhone, but it seems like the issues are getting fixed for those who do have iPhone faster for some reason...
Is this even being worked on anymore or are you just abandoning all us Android users who have been paying for an unusable service for the last 5 months??
Hi mik,
I understand that you have the latest version updated but are still seeing the same subtitle issue.
Could you confirm that you've tried to clear your device's app data/cache + rebooted your Chromecast device as well?
Please also let us know if it's still the Viki Pass Plus titles that have the issue or all shows?
Thanks for your help!
Best,
Michelle

Clearing everything out and rebooting seems to have worked, and I checked several different Plus shows and it doesn't seem to be an issue any longer. Thanks!
Hi there,
I am still having the subtitles issue.
I updated the app, cleared the cache/data and rebooted Chromecast.
The issue is still happening specifically for Running Man and How Do You Play.
But Standard shows are okay. The other Plus shows I tried looks fine too.
Please fix this asap. It has been way too long (5 months!!) for this issue to remain unsolved, especially for paying users. Truly dissapointing.
