[Closed] No subtitles

Watching Bride of the Century and English subtitle completely stopped at end of episode 4. We started episode 5 where subtitles started then stopped. I completely backed out of the app and went back in to pickup where I left off. The english subtitle came up in a part I previously could not see then went out again.

  • Hi there,

The reason why you are seeing intermittent subtitles is because the volunteers are still working on them.

We don't actually translate or subtitle content ourselves; instead, our passionate volunteer community (people like you!) subtitle content on Viki. You can learn more about our volunteer community here.

When subtitles for a video don’t appear or are incomplete, the community has not finished with the subtitling yet. But don't worry, they'll get to it very soon!

You can check a video if it has been completely subtitled by referring to the subtitle completion percentage at the bottom of the video thumbnail. Follow the channel to get mobile notifications from the Viki mobile app when subtitles are completed. For more details on how to do this, please refer to this FAQ.

    Best,
    Michelle

  • I thought that too with FOREST, however I picked several old shows I had watched before and no subtitles.

Why are people closing their accounts?

  • Hi lad813_331,

Could you let us know which are the old shows without subtitles as well as the device you are watching from?

    Thank you,
    Michelle

  • I use a ROKU device.

I have an account so you should be able to see what I am trying to watch. I wasn't watching any old shows I simply selected anything ( What's Wrong With Secretary Kim) to try to see if it was only the new shows that didn't display the subtitles. Old shows, new shows, no subtitles.

This is only happening with my VIKI account. All other accounts show subtitles.

I have rebooted my ROKU and my internet service.

    Thank you for contacting me.

  • Hi lad813_331,

Thanks for writing in to us.

Subtitle language, size and style of your Viki Channel is determined by your Roku device's system settings.

Please try these steps to adjust your subtitle settings first:

    1. Visit the Main Menu of your Roku device's homepage
    2. Select Settings and look for System then Language
    3. Select 'English' or the desired language for your system
    4. Once you're done, return to the Viki Channel. You should see your desired language as your subtitle language.

Note: The 'Captions preferred language' option on Roku's Accessibility settings is not applicable for the Viki Channel.

Hope this helps and do let me know if you're still having subtitle issues after.

    Best,
    Michelle

  • Hi Legend of Dugu states that it's 100% EN on the box so I assumed that means that the video has all english subtitles but episode 7 doesn't have any subtitles at all.  I try to look for shows that are completly subtitled already.  Because I don't understand any Korean or Chinese so I always go for shows that have that indicator.  Am I doing something wrong I don't change any of my settings between episodes so nothing should have changed.
