Too short English Subtitles

The English subtitles come on for such a short period of time that I am unable to read them.  This makes the watching of the Korean and Japanese dramas UNWATCHABLE.

No sense in keeping the Viki8 subscription unless this problem can be resolved.

  • I agree. Esp for long subtitles. I have to pause, go back10 seconds and read again. I don't think this makes them unwatchable, but it makes watching more difficult, less fun!

  • Hi @rberney1212_568,

Sorry I missed this post. Would you be referring to subtitles flashing on Roku?

Could you try deleting and reinstalling the Viki Channel on your Roku device to see if it helps?

If it continues to occur, please let me know.

    Also @isbjorn,

Thanks for your feedback regarding the readability of long subtitles. I've forwarded your feedback to the team.

Also, to help us gauge which subtitles are considered too long, could you provide examples where the subtitles are too long in shows? (ex. 35:42 of Ep 24 of Where Stars Land)

    Thanks,
    Kristie

  • Thank you, Kristie, I will try to gather a few examples.

    To clarify:

--I'm not sure the subtitles are too long; I just wish that the multiple-line ones would stay on the screen a bit longer when possible (i.e., when it doesn't interfere w another subtitle). So I will try to keep my eye out for ones like that & post them here (may not be for a week or so).

I prefer getting everything a character has said even if it means I have to go back to read it all.

-- I LOVE when (e.g., in Haechi) subtitlers add info that helps viewers understand Korean words, concepts, etc. This often means I need to go back, but I don't mind in these cases.

  • An example of when subtitles are actually TOO SHORT is the recent Jang Hyuk interview.

  • The problem is that the subtitles are flashing, sometimes for only one second, so that we can't read them, even when they are only one line long.    I am using Roku on my TV.

We are having the same problem with ALL the Korean soaps: Devilish Joy, Crimonogist H.., Secret Garden, Lover from a Star, and Last Emperor.

It is impossible to watch these lovely programs without readable subtitles, and there is no reason to keep them on for such a short time. So, unless this problem can be fixed, we will cancel our subscription.

  • I finally found the solution.  I unplugged my TV and all (VCR, DVR, etc) and left it off for about 30 minutes. Miraculously, when I started it up again the subtitles wee on for much longer, long enough so that I could read two, or sometimes even three lines.  I think Viki has great monogramming!

I'm glad that unplugging your TV and turning it back on fixed the issue!

If you encounter any issues again, don't hesitate to get in touch!
