[Solved] Subtitles out of sync with Chromecast

Hi, we’ve been experiencing issues with subtitles appearing out of sync with various shows when casted to a TV via Chromecast (Running Man, How Do You Play, Pasta, etc). Is this an issue on Viki’s end?

    Hi all,

The subtitle out of sync issue on Chromecast should be fixed for all devices including Android ones now. Please check that your Android Viki app is updated to Version 6.17.0 for the fix.

If you're still seeing the same issue, please try the following first:

If that does not resolve the issue, please share with us more information:

    1. The version of the Viki app or Chrome browser that you are casting from.
    2. The device and operating system you are using.
    3. Do you see this issue even when you're not casting? i.e while watching directly on the app
    4. The specific show/episode number and timestamp with the issue. (Eg. Hotel Del Luna around 35:05)

    Thanks,
    Michelle

  • I'm experiencing the same thing with the drama, Alice! The subtitles are extremely fast and hard to follow. The weird thing is that it doesn't happen with newer dramas that release new episodes. So weird!! :/

  • Hi all,

We're sorry that you're experiencing this subtitle out of sync issue on Chromecast. Our team is aware of it and will be looking into it as soon as they can.

In the meantime, we suggest watching directly on the app or at Viki.com.

Hope this helps for now and we will provide updates once available.

    Thank you,
    Michelle‍

  • I’m also experiencing the same thing with Taxi Driver and Youth of May...only happens when I try to cast with my Chromecast.

  • Yes, this is happening when I Chromecast from both Android and iOS devices. But played from either device directly (not casting) there are no issues. And it seems to be for older episodes as well that I had watched before with no problems.
It’s like the subtitles start 5 seconds too early and remain that way for the entirety of an episode. Hoping to enjoy Viki from my TV again!

  • I also have been experiencing this issue for a couple of days now. Ive tried playing several different shows with the chrome cast, but all of them had subtitles that were out of sync. I hope this issue could be resolved soon. :(

  • Me, too.  I am experiencing this with all the dramas (I tried to play most of them to make sure it's not just one particular drama) and all of them were out of sync,  Hopefully this gets resolved right away.

  • Same issue, only affecting Sell Your Haunted House at this time. This is strictly from the mobile app for me, as casting from my laptop does not have syncing issues.

  • I've also been experiencing the same issue these past few weeks. I can't watch the Running Man Classics or new Running Man episodes because the subs are out of sync when casting from my phone to google chrome. So far it's happening with most variety shows and k-dramas I try to watch. Thanks for working on this.

  • Subtitles were working fine on "Suspicious Partner" on Chromecast  to about a month ago, then subtitles started coming in 5 seconds early. Not acceptable. (Always OK with just a computer or the app. Only goes crazy when cast.)

I put on my calendar to drop VIKI when my subscription runs out.

  • Will you guys will you guys ever bring back the app for Samsung TVs, so I don’t have to experience this problem again? This happens multiple times a year. I’m paying for Viki plus, but most of the shows are unwatchable because of the timing issues.

  • Same issue here. Originally had issue casting altogether and had to reinstall Viki, now it casts but subtitles are faster than vid which makes our favorite variety shows difficult to watch.

  • Any update on this yet? It has been almost a month now, and it's really frustrating trying to watch anything on Viki with the chromecast.

  • Please fix this already. It’s been going on for so long. I’m paying for viki plus and it’s frustrating that I can’t watch what I want to watch. It’s crazy, viki subscription is one of the most expensive subscriptions out there. It’s moment like this that makes me miss dramafever so much. Just bring back the app from tvs.

  • When are you going to fix this problem? I am paying more to watch my favorite programs with Chromecast and friends that use torrent are watching in Chromecast and I can't.
If this issue won't be fixed soon, I'm going to subscribe at some other platform.

  • I just cancelled my subscription. Its been over a month. Ridiculous that we’re getting this subpar service when we are subscribed to their most expensive subscription. So done with Viki.

  • I'm having the same issue with every show I try to watch. Its really inconvenient to pay for a premium service and not have even basic functionality. Please fix this issue!

  • Yes please fix this problem I'm paying for this subscription and for it to be handled properly. I understand that I'm not paying the people who do the subtitles, but at least can I at least get synchronization please. It's my (our) coin on the line as so many others my other Viki family users

  • I’ve been waiting for over a month for this to be resolved. Chromecast is my main and only way of watching Viki and it has been virtually unusable ever since this issue started occurring. This is absolutely unacceptable as I am paying you guys monthly for this unusable service. This is taking way too long. If your developers don’t know how to fix this bug by now then maybe you should hire less incompetent ones. Please fix this asap or I will have no other choice but to cancel my subscription.

  • This issue makes the using viki impossible. I'm going to give it another month before cancelling my subscription.

  • I am having the same problem as well. It's a shame the only comment from the Support Team consisted in recommending the usage of the app through the website. I get it may be better, but I don't have the app on my TV, not to mention this "so-called" Viki android app has casting features for a reason. Since this has been going on for months... I guess it is safe to assume the Support Team don't care about its paid users. I was seriously considering the annual sub, after this I might as well just cancel like the others. Poor support lacking professionalism

  • So as of now, casting from the browser is also resulting in delayed subtitles for me as well.

I prefer Chromecast for my viewing, and it was the major deciding factor in my subscription to Viki. An update of the progress or a timeline to restored functionality would be appreciated.

  • This is STILL an issue that has not been resolved for over 1 month. I am watching How do you Play and the subtitles are still out of sync. It is really hard to follow along, and unenjoyable to watch. I pay for the premium subscription solely for Chromecast option, but it has had major issues recently (could not cast to Chromecast for several weeks). Viki should reimburse users for these issue since it has not been resolved in a timely manner. Are there any new updates you can provide??
