[Solved] Why do VikiPass subscribers still have to pay for rentals?

If we already pay for VikiPass, shouldn’t we be able to have access to everything? Why do we still have to pay for movies that have rentals?

    Hi pianist5584_572,

Thank you for writing to Viki Community Support!

    We're sorry for the confusion.

‘Rentals’ is a new feature launched on Viki whereby users can rent and watch select movies at their leisure without a Viki Pass subscription.

If a title is available for rental, you will have either one of these options on the title’s page:

    1. Rent - A one-time payment is needed to rent the show.

    2. Watch From* - You may choose to rent with a one-time payment or subscribe to a Viki Pass subscription that would include access to the title.

*Do note that you will not see this option if you already have the required Viki Pass plan to access the title.

Based on the device you’re using, you can learn more about how to rent a show here: Rentals - How do I rent shows?

For Rent-only titles, such as Josee / New Year Blues, the one-time rental payment is separate from your subscription fee. If you are not keen on those titles, rest assured that there are still many other movies available to Viki Pass subscribers! Moreover, we will continue to license and release new content exclusive to Viki Pass.

We really seek your understanding as ‘Rentals’ is a new feature that is part of our efforts to offer more viewing options/experiences to users.

    Cheers,
    Lyn

  • This was asked back in March and it's now mid-May. I, also, would like to know why there's Rentals when I've got VikiPass Plus AND if these Rentals will be made available to us in the future WITHOUT the Rental fee.

  • Also then, what’s the point of having VikiPass if you have to pay again for rentals anyway?

Is renting only for new movies that will eventually be on viki as plus or standard?

  • Hi joycrux,

To add on from the previous response provided, Rental-only titles gives you the ability to watch theatre-release movies many months ahead of the video/home release. That is why it is different from the usual subscription offerings.

We are not able to confirm if it will all be made available for subscribers in the near future as it depends on the licensing terms.

If you are not keen on renting those titles, rest assured that there are still many other movies available to Viki Pass subscribers. Moreover, we will continue to license and release new content exclusive to Viki Pass.

    Hope this clarifies now.

    Best,
    Michelle

  • Yes, it does! Thank you so much! I didn't understand that they were in-theater movies only! That makes a lot more sense! <3
