Black screen while using HDMI cable

I understand that most streaming sites typically stop working or have a black screen when they detect any sort of screen sharing or streaming. However, Viki stops working when my computer is connected to my desk monitor via an HDMI cable. I made sure there was no screen mirroring and made sure that airplay was off (I'm on a MacBook air). Could someone help me out?

  • Hello,

    Thanks for writing in!

I’m sorry that you're experiencing issues with Viki via your HDMI cable.

You may try the following to see if it resolves the issue:

    • Reverse the ends of the HDMI cable.

    • Use a new HDMI cable.

    • Use another HDMI port on your TV.

    • If available, try connecting on another TV.

      • If you were able to stream on another TV, there may be an issue with the HDMI port on the original TV. Contact the TV manufacturer for further assistance.

Are you still having the same issues? If so, can you please provide the following information?

    1. What is your TV device model? Do you have Google Play Store on your TV to download the Viki TV app?
    2. Browser version and operating system of your Macbook. Click here to see all related information.
    3. Which specific movies or episodes are causing this issue? Are there shows without the issue? Please give example titles + episodes.
    4. Do you hear audio or see subtitles on the black screen?
    5. A screenshot/photo of the issue.

    Best,
    Michelle
