How do I use Learn Mode?

Learn Mode is an innovative feature to facilitate language learning. It is available for Korean, Chinese, Japanese & Taiwanese titles that have at least 50% subtitles in the origin language.

Learn Mode is available on web browsers and the iOS app only. 

  Important : We are aware of the issues happening with the Learn Mode feature. However, we’d like to let you know that any work on Learn Mode has been put on hold for now. We greatly appreciate your understanding.
  Web 

  Turning On Learn Mode

The Learn Mode option will be available once a video has at least 50% caption completion in its original language.

  1. On the video player, click subtitles.png to launch the subtitle menu.
  2. At Learn Mode, slide the button to the right to turn on Learn Mode. Slide the button to the left to turn off Learn Mode.

  How to Use Learn Mode

  Navigating between subtitle segments
Once Learn Mode has been turned on, both original language and your preferred subtitle language will appear together. There will also be arrows — previous and next — above the subtitles to allow easy navigation between the previous and next subtitle segments. 

  Replaying a segment
Between the arrows is a replay button. Click it to play the current segment again and get a better grasp of the dialogue. 

  Definition and pronunciation of a word in the original language
Mouse over caption in the original language and click a particular word to get its definition and pronunciation in your preferred subtitle language.

  iOS
Note: Learn Mode on iOS is not available for Kocowa-licensed titles, which can be identified when a 'Kocowa' word is shown on the screen before the actual video plays.

  Turning On Learn Mode

The Learn Mode option will be available once a video has at least 50% caption completion in its original language.

  1. While playing a video in full-screen mode, tap subtitles.png to launch the subtitle menu.
  2. In the pop-up, tap on Learn Mode 
  3. Slide the button to the right to get started.

Tap "X" at the top right of the screen to begin watching with Learn Mode.
