Video issues on web

Many Viki titles are available to watch in HD for our Viki Pass subscribers. We always strive to deliver the best video quality possible, based on your Internet speed and Viki Pass subscription. If you're trying to stream in HD, and you don't think you're getting HD quality, try the following steps:

Make sure that your device can play HD quality videos

If your device can output video in 720p or higher, your device supports video output in HD. You may want to check with your manufacturer or owner's manual if you're unsure if your device supports HD video.

If your device is unable to play HD videos, you can limit the maximum video quality you receive on the web. For more information, refer to this article.

Make sure your Internet connection can support HD streaming

To consistently stream in HD, your connection should be able to sustain a connection speed of 5 megabits per second or higher.

Below are the Internet download speed recommendations per stream for playing movies and TV shows through various streaming providers, including Viki.

  • 0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed
  • 1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed
  • 3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality (480p)
  • 5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality (720p and 1080p)

If your connection meets the minimum requirements for streaming in HD but you're not seeing HD video, you may need to check your internet connection. You can follow a few troubleshooting steps to make sure you're getting the best internet connection for video streaming here
